OUTLINE
- Hokkaido Garden Show
- Fumiaki Takano
Throughout human history, unique styles of gardens have been developed as places for parties and exchange, as symbols of power, and expressions of inner space while being closely related to the natural environment, climate, culture, religion, and lifestyle of each country.
Now in the 21st century, the roles that gardens are expected to play are gradually changing. Humans have been going forward seeking only growth, large scale, efficiency and speed.
Things like relaxation, symbiosis with nature, and dialogues, which were discarded in the process, are growing in importance now.
We believe one of the roles a garden plays is to let people feel the affluence of nature and let them have dialogues with it. Also, we believe a garden should be a beautiful expression of the uniqueness of the local area and natural surroundings, and of the human life, history and culture that have been developed there. And we want it to be a place to think about the future of nature and humans, in other words, how human beings should relate to natural environments and live in the next millennium.
For the Hokkaido Garden Show, we would like the following three themes to be kept in mind:
Conversation with Nature
The Garden of Hokkaido
The Future of Human Beings and Nature
